Can You Spell Murkowski?

November 11, 2010

The election’s been over for more than a week, but ballots are still being scrutinized in many states. That includes Alaska, where incumbent Lisa Murkowski leads challenger and Tea Party endorsee Joe Miller by about 11,000 votes.  Miller’s campaign team is pinning its hopes on the disqualification of ballots, mainly on the grounds of inconsistencies and idiosyncrasies in spelling, handwriting, and so on.  (Murkowski, you remember, was forced to run a write-in campaign after losing the Republican primary to Miller earlier this year.)

By most accounts, Miller has quite an uphill battle.  Still, it’s a compelling story– made more so by the fact that Sarah Palin is in Miller’s corner.  Remember when Alaska seemed, to those of us in the Lower 48, almost irrelevant politically?
