Total Recall
The New York Times reports this morning that toy-making giant Fisher-Price has issued a recall for 10 million tricycles, high chairs, and other products for children. A protuberance on Fisher-Price Trikes and Tough Trikes (“some of which feature popular characters like Dora the Explorer and Barbie,” the Times notes) have already caused injuries to ten children. And pegs on the backs of several types of high chairs have reportedly injured fourteen kids, with seven of them requiring stitches. Other recalls involved toys with small, removable parts that have been deemed to be choking hazards.
Parent company Mattel, Inc. today filed an 8-K saying it expects the cost of these recalls “to reduce its 2010 full-year earnings by approximately $0.01 per share.” Find more information on Mattel and other public companies on our SEC Filings page; or search our Risk Factors page for “Product Liability” and “Product Recall,” among many other risk factor categories and terms.
