Relax, It’s Just Burning and Pillaging
Yesterday brought the initial public offering of Sunity Online Entertainment Limited, a Chinese video game manufacturer based in Beijing and incorporated in the Cayman Islands. The registration statement, an F-1, includes promotional art from two of the company’s video games, “Han Dynasty” and “Three Kingdom Illation” (pictured).
Both games, of course, are inspired by legendary historical periods of China’s feudal past — periods marked by violence and warfare, and thus presumably well-suited for action-packed video games. Indeed, as the Wikipedia entry notes, the Three Kingdoms period was “one of the bloodiest in Chinese history.” And the marketing image for Three Kingdom Illation is clearly focused on this aspect of the history: it shows a band of armed warriors wielding swords as they ride horseback through a burning village.
The image’s caption: “It is a funny cartoon-style game that provides a relaxed and social environment.”
