California Dreamin’

August 30, 2010

Will Dell match HP’s latest offer of $30 per share for 3PAR? We’ll know by Wednesday at the latest, but whatever the outcome, 3PAR shareholders are presumably feeling pretty good right now. The value of their stock has tripled over the last three weeks.

Among these shareholders are public school teachers in the critically cash-strapped state of California. The California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS), according to its recent 13F-HR, owns about 19,000 shares in 3PAR. Not a bad windfall – but whatever the final purchase price, not likely to put much of a dent in CalSTRS’s $42.6 billion shortfall.
